South Korea (Seoul) - Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS)

Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) is a private leading research and global university located in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The university was established in 1954. Since its founding, HUFS has pioneered the way forward for Korea, leading the country's economic growth and globalization. HUFS is recognized as the best university in Korea for educating foreign languages and area studies. HUFS offers 45 major languages of Asia, Europe, the Middle East and other regions of the world, combined with studies in the humanities, social sciences, business, law, natural and computer sciences.
The university has two campuses, the Seoul Campus is the main campus located in the eastern region of Seoul (Imun-ro, Dongdaemun District) and the Global Campus located in Yongin. Seoul is a high tech, cosmopolitan city offering an eclectic mix of modern attractions along with ancient architecture and landscapes and Yongin is a suburban city. Students can choose to study at one of the two campuses depending on their major of study.
The Program and Courses The Program
Students have many opportunities to interact with foreign students from various countries as well as local Korean students. Students will take four to five courses during a single semester. The courses are taught in English at both campuses unless you choose to take courses in one of the 45 languages taught at the university. At the Seoul campus students can take courses in Business, Economics, Political Science, Mass Communications, International Studies, Education, English, Korean Studies, and language courses. At the Global Campus, students can take courses in Philosophy, History, Mathematics, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Business and Economics courses was well as language courses.

Housing Information
Housing will be in a residence hall on-campus or off-campus. Payment for housing is to be made upon check-in at the dorm. Rooms will be double occupancy, air-conditioned, fully-furnished (bed, desk, closet, locker, telephone and refrigerator), with private bathroom/shower room, and free internet access. The residence hall also has the following facilities: laundry room, study rooms, fitness center, lounge, and a convenient store. The on-campus residence hall doesn't have a cafeteria but the campus has 3 cafeterias and you may also eat at nearby restaurants. Student residents in the off-campus residence hall will have access to a kitchen.
HUFS Buddy Program
The HUFS Buddy Program provides an opportunity to build friendships between local and international students through informal interactions outside the classroom, both on-campus and off-campus.These include weekly Korean film evenings with typical Korean refreshments, a taekwondo session, and an introduction to student nightlife hot spots. The buddy team also assists the international students with adapting to the local Korean lifestyle by helping them obtain mobile phones, accompanying them on the subway if necessary, introducing them to good shopping districts, and giving them walking tours of interesting neighborhoods. One member of the buddy team will be living in the on-campus dorm to provide assistance as needed to the international students on an on-call basis.
Visa Information
All participants in this program are required to apply for and obtain a student visa the Korean Consulate in New York City. This can be done in person or via mail. Students will not be able to apply for the student visa until they have received an official letter of acceptance from HUFS. More details and instructions on obtaining the Korean student visa are provided upon acceptance. Note: Non-US passport holder may require different procedures. Flight and Arrival Information
Students in this program will be responsible for making their own flight arrangements to Incheon International Airport (IIA) in Seoul. Upon acceptance to the program, students will be provided with the arrival dates.

Financial Aid
Students currently receiving financial aid can use their aid for overseas study, and may, in some cases, have their awards increased. Students not currently receiving financial aid may be eligible. Those interested in financial aid for this program should contact the financial aid office on their home campus.
Applications Due to overseas university requirements, community college students are not allowed to participate. Please consider applying for the program once you are at a four year college or university.

A non-refundable deposit of $250, applicable to the program cost, must be paid within 14 days of acceptance to the program in order to secure program participation. Any deviation from program requirements must be requested in writing and authorized by the Director of International Education and Programs before the final payment date.
