The University
Among the extensive academic and cultural resources of Paris, the Oswego-Binghamton-Geneseo Paris program stands as the oldest undergraduate overseas French program in the SUNY system, having sent students to France since 1969. Presently, students engage in an academic program across various fields such as Social Sciences, International Relations, Political Science, Art History, and Environmental Studies.

Students interested in participating in the internship program also benefit from possible placements within French and international companies, NGOs, and other organizations in Paris, providing them with growing interpersonal and professional skills and opportunities. The city of Paris offers an abundance of culturally diverse experiences for students to explore.

The SUNY in Paris summer program offers an immersive experience in French language and culture. Over the course of four weeks, students will earn 3 credits in French language and 3 credits in Global Studies coursework. This program delves into French culture and explores the societal and environmental impacts of public policy and challenges faced by the country.

The Program Director
The program is supervised by our Paris Resident Director. The Director organizes personal airport pickup, assigns and registers housing, teaches the Global Studies course, evaluates grades and credits, and organizes the orientation program, cultural activities, and excursions in Paris.

Courses
Students in this program will take two courses, each worth 3 US credits for a total of 6 US credits. Classes are taught Monday-Friday and typically finish around 4pm, with 1-2 free afternoons during the week.

Each summer the program is adapted for the current group. The two courses taught are:

  • French Grammar (at the corresponding level for each student, please see course description linked above)
  • GLS 399: France in a Global Society (taught in English)

Housing
Students will be housed in the Fondation des Etats Unis (residence hall) for the duration of the program. Students will have a single room with private bathroom and a mini fridge. Communal kitchens are shared by students on each floor. Affordable student dining establishments are located close to the residence hall where students can purchase full meals for less than €4/meal. A metro stations is conveniently located directly across from the residence for easy transportation to class.

Flight and Arrival Information
Students in this program will be responsible for making their own flight arrangements to Paris. Upon acceptance to the program, students will be provided with the arrival date and time where they will be met by our Paris Program Director at Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Students are welcome to arrive to another airport or outside of the arrival time window, but in doing so should understand that airport pickup is no longer guaranteed. Students will then become responsible for their own arrival to the residence hall, which is quite manageable in a city like Paris. Students can either take public transportation or a taxi to their accommodations and the Program Director can provide instructions prior to arrival. Some students have found this option to be more cost effective at times depending on the flight deals available. If you have any questions about this option, please contact the program coordinator for more information.

Visa Information
Participants in this program possessing a US passport do NOT have to apply for a student visa. Note: Non-US passport holders (or dual European Union citizens) may require different procedures. Please contact the program specialist for more details.
