Program Description:

Germany

The University
The University of Osnabrück (also spelled Osnabrueck) has 10 different schools and departments. The fall semester typically runs October through February, with the spring semester running from March to July. Please note that students going in the fall semester should be aware of the possibility of an overlap with the start of their home university's spring semester.

Academics
Participants may take courses in German alongside German students. Students who have only a basic foundation in German (one to two years) may want to participate in the intensive German language course in the summer prior to the beginning of the fall semester. All students may participate in English-German conversation groups organized through the university's international office.

There are also limited class offerings in English that participants are also permitted to take. The largest of these class offerings are offered in the cognitive science program. This program is interdisciplinary with courses taught in English in psychology, linguistics, logic, and philosophy, as well as some courses in artificial intelligence and neuroscience. This program is especially popular with computer science students.

There are also classes taught in English in law, social sciences (limited offerings), biology, English literature, American studies, and linguistics. 

Additionally, there are class offerings for international students in other foreign languages, like Spanish, French, and Italian. Please note that these classes may require advanced previous knowledge of the language. 

Housing
Students typically live in University of Osnabrueck designated residence halls. The rooms are mainly single-room occupancy with kitchen facilities. There are university cafeterias and many inexpensive restaurants in the area. Students can also live in off-campus apartments, with placement assistance provided by the University of Osnabrueck.

Fall Spring

Insurance
All students participating in this program are covered by the SUNY full health and accident insurance as well as medical evacuation and repatriation insurance.

National Health Insurance
In addition, students on this program must be enrolled in their host country's mandatory health insurance.

Financial Aid
Students currently receiving financial aid can use their aid for overseas study, and may, in some cases, have their awards increased. Students not currently receiving financial aid may be eligible. Those interested in financial aid for this program should contact the financial aid office on their home campus.

Late applications are accepted on a space-available basis. Please contact our office at intled@oswego.edu for further details.

A non-refundable deposit of $250, applicable to the program cost, must be paid within 14 days of acceptance to the program in order to secure program participation. Any deviation from program requirements must be requested in writing and authorized by the Director of International Education and Programs before the final payment date.
