The Site
Barcelona is located on the Mediterranean Sea and is part of Catalonia, an autonomous region of Spain. Barcelona is Spain’s second-most populous city with more than 1.5 million residents. CAPA Barcelona is centrally located in the downtown Plaça de Catalunya area, close to Las Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter at the Institute for American Universities. Barcelona is known for its Gaudí architectural masterpieces, Spanish tapas, beaches, and the FC Barcelona soccer team.
The Program
The CAPA Barcelona program caters to a range of majors and offers several academic courses and experiential learning opportunities, including internships. CAPA offers a variety of courses in business, marketing, finance, humanities, and Spanish language with local visits that take advantage of the visually stunning streets and buildings, and special lectures relevant to your study abroad experience. Note: Internships are offered in English or Spanish. You must have at least four semesters of Spanish language to participate in a Spanish-language internship. Internships in Catalan may also be available for students who meet the language fluency requirements.
Courses, Internships, and Concentrations
Earn 6-9 credits in the summer (courses are 3 credits unless otherwise noted). A full listing of CAPA's current course offerings can be found on the CAPA Barcelona Courses section of the website.
Internships: Any junior or senior enrolled in the CAPA Barcelona program may do an internship. Sophomores with ample experience will be considered for participation as well. Placements are available in a wide variety of fields that match the interests, talents, and backgrounds of the students. Internships are for one semester (15 weeks) and are worth three or six credit hours. Part-time internships are available in the above four academic tracks and include placements in businesses, as well as non-profit and non-governmental organizations. Students are placed in sites within commuting distance of the CAPA Barcelona Center that best meet their individual interests, abilities, experience, and academic background. Specific placements will depend on the background, training, interests, and ability of students, as well as their success in securing the internship in an interview during the first few days in Barcelona. Placements are in English or in Spanish. You must have completed at least four semesters of Spanish language to participate in a Spanish internship.
Concentrations:
Housing and Meals
Students live within commuting distance of the CAPA Barcelona site in shared apartments or homestays. Apartments have cooking facilities. Homestays include breakfast and dinner. Homestays incur a supplementary fee.
Program Inclusions
Included in this program are:
Local Transportation: A Barcelona bus and metro pass for the dates of the program.
Excursions: A full-day excursion to Girona and Figueres where you will visit the Dalí Museum, and a full-day excursion to Montserrat where you’ll visit the abbey and enjoy panoramic views.
Student Events: In addition to the My Global Cities weekly events calendar, social events, and program activities include a welcome lunch and a farewell dinner with a flamenco show.
Student Safety & Support: The CAPA Barcelona team is available throughout your program to assist and support you 24/7 with any urgent situations. We maintain a comprehensive health and safety plan with staff available 24/7 in the event of an emergency.
My Global City Program
CAPA’s My Global City unique learning immersion program blends local culture and top-notch academics into the experience of a lifetime for our students. A proven education program that combines theme-based learning with unique cultural experiences turning Barcelona into your classroom.
CAPA-led events each semester include a walk through the labyrinthine streets of the old Gothic Quarter, and a visit to Santa Maria del Mar, an excellent example of Catalan Gothic architecture and Barcelona's "forgotten" cathedral. Other activities vary by semester and reflect on what is on at the time.
CAPA PALS
Students will have the opportunity to be matched with another student going on their CAPA program during the application process. This a great way to meet new people prior to arrival have additional support through the support of a “pal” and just another way to get involved in the CAPA Community! You will just need to complete a brief survey about your interests and lifestyle so the CAPA team can find your best match in the cohort! Whether you are a first-time or seasoned traveler, looking to make friends earlier than arrival, or just want a support system to help you as you navigate the process of preparing for living abroad - this program is great for all students!

Visa
Visa information will be provided directly by CAPA The Global Education Network. To begin reading about the student visa process, please visit the Consulate General of Spain in New York's website.
Flights
Students make their own flight arrangements to Barcelona's international airport, Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat. Students then take a taxi or other form of transportation to CAPA's designated arrival location. Closer to the departure date you will be informed of the official meeting place from CAPA.

Insurance
All students participating in this program are covered by the SUNY full health and accident insurance as well as medical evacuation and repatriation insurance.
Financial Aid
Students currently receiving financial aid can use their aid for overseas study, and may, in some cases, have their awards increased. Students not currently receiving financial aid may be eligible. Those interested in financial aid for this program should contact the financial aid office on their home campus.

Apart from completing the SUNY Oswego study abroad application, students applying for a CAPA: The Global Education Network Program need to also complete the CAPA application at the following link: https://go.capa.org/oswego/. Late applications are accepted on a space-available basis. Please contact our office at intled@oswego.edu for further details.
A non-refundable deposit of $250, applicable to the program cost, must be paid within 14 days of acceptance to the program in order to secure program participation. Any deviation from program requirements must be requested in writing and authorized by the Director of International Education and Programs before the final payment date.
