The Country
Singapore is an island city-state located at the tip of the Malay Peninsula in Southeast Asia made up of the main island and 60 much smaller inlets. Singapore is one of the world's leading financial centers and is a very diverse country.
The University
JCU Singapore was established in 2003 as James Cook University of Australia's first international campus and recently (June 2015) expanded to a new location to better serve the student population. JCU Singapore operates on a trimester system year-round, allowing full-degree seeking students to complete their degrees in as little as two years. SUNY Oswego study abroad participants are allowed to attend JCU Singapore in Semester 1 (March - June) or Semester 2 (July - October). The JCU campus is located just 10 minutes from the Central Business District and is easily accessible to most major attractions.
The Program
The university allows international students to take courses in business, psychology, Asian studies, and information technology and all programs offered follow the same curriculum as their Australian counterparts, but are contextualized to the Asian environment. Available classes by trimester can be found on
JCU Singapore's website.
Exchange Opportunity
This program has a limited number of exchange positions available. While all SUNY students are able to participate in this program as fee paying students, the exchange opportunity is
open only to SUNY Oswego applicants. Students awarded the exchange will see their program differential reduced (see budget sheet for more details). While early applications are strongly encouraged, a decision is not made until the deadline to allow for all to apply. To apply for the exchange position, complete the
Exchange Scholarship Application.
Please note: The application deadline for students wishing to be considered for an exchange position is
earlier than the listed deadline. All application materials, including the Exchange Scholarship Application, are
due one month prior to the posted deadline. For Fall programs, this deadline is
March 1. For Spring programs the deadline is
September 15. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the program coordinator.
Housing and Meals
JCU Singapore has no on-campus accommodation options. International students are provided a list of housing options (available
here) that fit a wide variety of budgets and needs. Accommodation Assistance Support helps students review accommodation options, or source and make available accommodation, whether you choose to stay in off-campus hostels, or a serviced apartment, private rental or shared accommodation.
