University of Tsukuba
The University of Tsukuba is situated 40 miles northeast of Tokyo. The main campus covers an area of 636 acres, making it the second largest single campus in Japan. Their founding philosophy states the University of Tsukuba is "a university which is open to all within and outside of Japan." The university is also known for its internationalization efforts.
The Program
This program is an academic year program, running from late August to at least late June. Students may enroll in Japanese language courses, held at the International Student Center, and special courses taught in English exclusively for visiting students within one of the following colleges:
- College of International Studies
- College of Education
- College of Psychology
- College of Disability Sciences

Exchange students are required to attend at least 8 periods of classes per week.
Japanese Language Courses
All exchange students are able to take the Comprehensive Japanese Language Course offered by CEGLOC. Students can take a maximum of 6 periods per week for one semester.
Housing and Meals
Students live in University of Tsukuba residence halls. They can eat in student cafeterias or student restaurants near campus, or they can cook their own meals in the residence halls. The residence halls have a stove and sink on each floor, and every complex has a market where students can buy groceries. It is mandatory that students who accept the JASSO scholarship will reside in the residence halls.
JASSO Scholarship
Applicants for SUNY Oswego/University of Tsukuba exchange program are advised to apply for the JASSO scholarship through the Japanese government. Awarded students will receive a monthly stipend to cover the cost of housing and meals. Visit this website to learn more about the JASSO Scholarship.

Insurance
All students are covered by full health, evacuation and repatriation insurance.
Host Country Health Insurance
In addition, student's on this program must be enrolled in their host country's mandatory health insurance.
Visa Information
All students on the Tsukuba University program will require a student visa to enter Japan. Information on the student visa procedure will be provided upon acceptance to the program. You can visit the Consulate General of Japan in New York website.
Financial Aid
Students currently receiving financial aid can use their aid for overseas study, and may, in some cases, have their awards increased. Students not currently receiving financial aid may be eligible. Those interested in financial aid for this program should contact the financial aid office on their home campus.
Applications
Due to overseas university requirements, community college students are not allowed to participate. Please consider applying for the program once you are at a four year college or university.

A non-refundable deposit of $250, applicable to the program cost, must be paid within 14 days of acceptance to the program in order to secure program participation. Any deviation from program requirements must be requested in writing and authorized by the Director of International Education and Programs before the final payment date.
